ある日、「ああ、もう美術なんてやめてしまおう。」と思った。
One day I said to myself, “Alas, I should quit doing art altogether.”
自室で寝転がった時、ベッドの横にあった小さな水槽が目にとまった。そこには七年前夏祭りですくってきた金魚が一匹いた。
I was exhausted from the mental distress and lay down on my bed.And then, by chance, I noticed a small fish tank beside the bed.In the fish tank was a Wakin Goldfish, which I brought back from a Kingyo Sukui(Goldfish Scooping) stall at a summer festival seven years ago.
名前はキンピン（メス）
Its name was Kim-pin, female.
たいして可愛がりもせず、粗末に扱ってきたため、水も汚れてフンまみれ、しかし彼女は生き続け、20cm以上になっていた。
I didn’t take a good care of her and the water was unclean with the fish droppings.However, she was thriving in the tank and I hadn’t even noticed that she had grown to a length of 20 cm.
僕は、水槽の蓋を開け、彼女を上から見てみた。そのとき、僕の背筋がゾクゾクっとした。
I lifted the lid of the tank and looked at her from above.At the moment, I felt a thrill shiver up my spine.
汚れた水の中で、赤く光る彼女の背中は、怪しく、そして最高に美しかった。
In the dirty water, her shiny red back was mysterious and extremely beautiful.
「この子がきっと僕を救ってくれる」
“I’m sure she will save me,” I told myself.
そう信じて、赤い絵の具を取り出し、彼女をモデルに筆を走らせた。楽しい！楽しい！楽しい！
I took out some red paint and painted a picture of her figure.Fun! Fun! It’s so much fun!
そしてあっという間に金魚の大群が生まれた。（これだ！）
A moment later, there was a large shoal of goldfish in front of me. This was it!
僕の探していた答えが、ヨーロッパでもなく、アメリカでもなくまさに、この部屋にあった。
This was the answer that I had been looking for, and I didn’t find it in Euroupe or America, but I found it in my very own room.
僕は、この日のできごとを「金魚救い」と呼んで大切にしている。
I call that day’s event “Kingyo Sukui(Goldfish Salvation)”and I value the memory.

1973年
愛知県生まれ。幼少期に弥富市の金魚を見て育つ。
Born in Aichi, JAPAN. During his childhood, he grew up surrounded by goldfish in Yatomi City.
1995年
愛知県立芸術大学美術学部デザイン・工芸専攻学科 卒業。
B.F.A in crafts and media design, Aichi Prefectual University of Fine Arts and Music.
1999年
退職後、制作活動を始める。
After retirement, starts production activities. During his childhood, he grew up surrounded by goldfish in Yatomi City.
2000年
制作に行き詰まりアーティストを辞めようとした時、部屋で7年間粗末に飼っていた一匹の金魚に初めて魅了される。以後この体験を「金魚救い」と呼び、金魚を描きはじめる。
“Goldfish Salvation(Kingyo Sukui)”: Being in a slump, his turning point occurred when he was fascinated for the first time by his pet goldfish he had neglected for 7 years.
2002年
器の中に樹脂を流し込み、絵具で金魚を描く技法をあみだす。ー2.5Dペインティング 代表作品“金魚酒”が誕生。
Devised a new technique – 2.5 Dimension Painting, by pouring resin into the container and painting on the surface with acrylic paint, giving birth to his iconic art work series, “Kingyo-sake.”
2007年
横浜にアトリエ「金魚養画場」を開設。
Establishment of Art Studio “Kingyoyougajou” in Yokohama, Kanagawa Precture.
2016年
西武渋谷店で初の大規模個展を開催。19日間で3万人を超える来場者を記録。
2018年
自身初となる公立美術館（平塚市美術館・刈谷市美術館）での個展を開催。2会場で10万人を超える来場者数となる。
Held first ever solo exhibition in a public art museum (Shonan The Hiratsuka Museum of Art and Kariya City Art Museum). Welcomed over 100,000 visitors during this exhibition.
